KANSASVILLE -- They've been on high alert for weeks. But on Monday evening, October 12th, neighbors got to speak directly with law enforcement about the manhunt for Andrew Obregon.
Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth
"He wants nothing to do with people right now, except probably his drug dealer," said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.
There is no question nerves were high in the crowd Monday night -- particularly among those who live near Brighton and Kansasville.
"He's high on crack, he's desperate, he could break into somebody's house," said one resident.
Sheriff Beth told those gathered that as far as he knows, Obregon has never broken into a house.
"Could anything happen? Yes, it could. But do I believe you are all in harm's way in your homes? I don't believe that for a second," said Beth.
Beth said most of the cars Obregon has stolen while on the run belonged to people he knows. Neighbors should be vigilant. But at the same time, Beth doesn't think Obregon plans to target people or crowds.
"The one person we believe he killed was a drug dealer, that I believe robbed his nephew -- and this was a payback," said Beth.
Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling
"If you see something, say something," said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.
Schmaling is asking people to call 911 immediately if they see anything suspicious -- and to be care before firing any weapons in the dark.
"The individual walking through your yard may be me. So we want to be certain that we're not inadvertently shooting or aiming a gun at the wrong person," said Schmaling.
A woman in the Burlington area was so nervous about the search for Obregon, she accidentally shot herself. In that case, she was drinking and drugs were found in the house. She's expected to make a full recovery.
