Kohl's cutting 10% of corporate office roles, spokesperson says
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. - Kohl's is cutting "approximately" 10% of roles at its corporate offices, FOX6 News confirmed from a company spokesperson on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
What we know:
In a statement, the spokesperson said the cuts aim to "support Kohl's ongoing actions to increase efficiencies and improve profitability for the long-term health and benefit of the business."
Of the 10% reduction in roles, the spokesperson said more than half will come from closing open positions. The remaining cuts are to positions that are currently filled.
What we don't know:
The company did not say how many positions the 10% reduction equates to, or specifically how many people were laid off.
"Knowing the impact this has on our associates, we took this decision very seriously," the spokesperson's statement read. "All impacted associates have been informed and we provided competitive severance packages to help support their transition. We sincerely thank our associates for their dedication to Kohl's."
Kohl's closing stores
The backstory:
Earlier this month, Kohl's announced plans to close 27 underperforming stores by April. The Menomonee Falls-based chain had posted 11 consecutive quarters of sales declines at that time.
The company said the store closings, which will take place in 15 different states, are just a fraction of its 1,150 store base. None of those stores are located in Wisconsin.
