MILWAUKEE (WITI) – Kwik Trip has announced its donation of $100,000 over the next five years to Fisher House Wisconsin, the state’s first Fisher House, to ensure veterans and their families receive the care and support they deserve.
The donation supports Fisher House Wisconsin’s capital campaign which is raising funds to help build Wisconsin’s first Fisher House at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.
Groundbreaking for the Milwaukee-based Fisher House is planned for spring of 2014. The house will be just over 13,000 square feet inside with 16 bedroom suites capable of accommodating up to eight people per suite.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who serve our country,” said John McHugh, Manager of Public Relations. We are proud of our military heroes and know they deserve the best. We are glad that we can help make a difference in the lives of those who have given us so much.”
“We are grateful for this extremely generous donation from Kwik Trip,” said Dan Buttery, President of the Board of Directors for Fisher House Wisconsin. “Their support for our veterans and their families is greatly appreciated. This donation allows us to continue our work by providing families with the care they need, and at a time when they need it most.”
The first Fisher House opened in Bethesda, MD in 1990. Typically, the houses are 5,000 to 16,000 square foot homes designed by the Fisher House Foundation. All are professionally furnished and can accommodate 16 to 42 family members. To date, the houses have saved military families more than $200 million in lodging and transportation costs.
Kwik Trip is the one of the largest convenience store chains in the upper Midwest. Headquartered in La Crosse, WI it operates 450 stores in three states -- Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
The mission of Fisher House Wisconsin is to help build Wisconsin’s first Fisher House facility at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. A Fisher House is a "home away from home" for military and veterans’ families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Construction of the
Milwaukee-based Fisher House is slated to begin in Spring 2014.
