Latest: Second person has died in wake of crash in Town of Yorkville

YORKVILLE -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office said a second person has now died in the wake of a crash that happened in the Town of Yorkville on Tuesday, August 30th.

Officials say 85-year-old Earl Goebel passed away at Froedtert Hospital on Friday, September 2nd. Goebel's wife, 87-year-old Evelyn Goebel, did not survive her injuries from the crash and had died earlier.

The 21-year-old driver of the second vehicle involved was not injured.

The crash happened on S. Sylvania Ave. started coming in shortly before 2:30 p.m. on August 30th. Officials say their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the second vehicle failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn.

At this time, it appears alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash. It appears all parties were using their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
