MILWAUKEE - The holiday travel weekend got off to a slow start for some drivers in Milwaukee on Friday morning, July 2. Part of northbound I-43 shut down for a couple of hours while law enforcement investigated a report of a shooting on the interstate.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said it has not received any reports of homes or vehicles being hit by gunfire. But Friday's shooting is the latest in a bunch of interstate shootings this year.

It was around 11 a.m. Friday when calls started coming into the 911 dispatch center.
Scanner traffic indicated the persons in one SUV reportedly were shooting at another car. The car crashed into the side of the freeway and kept going. Northbound traffic was brought to a standstill, however.

MCSO closed the northbound lanes – and diverted traffic at Keefe Avenue. Traffic backed up nearly two miles – south of North Avenue. Deputies walked the roadway looking for evidence.

When you go back to January, there have been at least seven shootings on Milwaukee County freeways.
Interstate-43 reopened to traffic around 12:30 p.m. Friday. The sheriff's office said it is looking for a suspect or suspects – as well as a motive.
