Lawmaker says she met with DOC officials in March regarding concerns over youth prison
MADISON — Republican Rep. Mary Czaja says she met with Department of Corrections officials in March to discuss concerns she'd received about inmates abusing staff at a youth prison in her district but was told the reports were inaccurate.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported Thursday, December 10th the meeting happened more than a month after the Department of Justice began an investigation into the reverse — allegations that staff at the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake schools in Irma were abusing inmates.
A secret John Doe probe began in October investigating a range of potential crimes there, including sexual assault, child neglect, abuse of inmates, intimidation of victims and witnesses, tampering with public records and misconduct in public office.
