"Love the collecting:" Milwaukee Comic Con 2016 draws thousands to Serb Hall

MILWAUKEE -- American Serb Hall on Sunday, July 24th played host to "Milwaukee Comic Con" 2016 -- a show billed as bigger and better than ever!

More than 200 vendors took part in "Mighty Con's" Milwaukee Comic Con and took place from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Serb Hall.

People excited for the event lined up an hour before the doors opened on Sunday.

"'In the nice weather like this? No, we don`t mind," John Bartlot said.

Bartlot and Jerry Olsen come to Milwaukee Comic Con every year.

"I just love the collecting. I love being here to meet the artists. They`ve got a few artists here," Olsen said.

The artists taking part in this year's event included Jeff Balke, an award-winning colorist.

"The coloring just comes to me. I can see something black and white and I can see what colors it already is. It`s like a sickness," Balke said.

His skill has landed him gigs with Marvel and soon he'll work with Philo Barnhart.

"It just becomes natural to you. It`s like any other thing you do. It makes you live," Barnhart said.

Barnhart spent several years as a Disney animator. One of his most well-known characters is Ariel.

"That was the first time and it was intentional," Barnhart said.

Barnhart on Sunday shared his talent with Milwaukee Comic Con attendees -- drawing requests.

The event attracted thousands of all ages -- with gaming tournaments and a cosplay contest.

Organizers said they're pleased with the event's growth each year.
