Madison school shooting; parents call for more school security, safety
KENOSHA, Wis. - On Monday, Dec. 16, a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison left three people dead, including the suspected shooter, and six others wounded.
The shooting has heightened concern for parents, staff and families, especially when it comes to how schools handle safety and security.
This has been an ongoing discussion among parents in Kenosha. It's a feeling likely any parent can agree on.

"It’s hard to hear that kind of thing. Especially going on in the schools," Kenosha Unified School District parent Maya Jacobo said. "You are there to learn, you are not there to be scared."
Only a few weeks ago, KUSD experienced its second weapon scare at a school in the span of a month.
The first happened in November at Roosevelt Elementary.
"My kids were part of that lockdown as well, even though they were pretty far away for it," Jacobo said. "All of KUSD was on lockdown."
Thankfully, no lives were lost in either incident. But parents say more needs to be done to keep their kids safe.
"The fact that they have some sort of plan is at least reassuring, but the whole thing is kind of scary, for sure," said Kenosha parent Ryan Havron. "There is always something you can do. It would be nice if the kids didn’t have to worry about going to school in a very high security setting."

That’s an idea one company is exploring.
It's called Quicklert. It essentially uses AI to detect and alert authorities of a potential threat under one platform.
"A system that is going to assist in that scenario where they see something and automatically say a weapon is detected," said Brett Rutledge with True Solutions Tech Partners. "If we can be notified to figure out this stuff before the gun shots go off, and before bad things happen. That’s what we are trying to do."
