Madison streets expected to be "a sea of red" during Saturday`s big Badger game

MADISON (WITI) -- If you can't make it to Indianapolis for this weekend's game, Madison is the place to be to watch the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Kentucky Wildcats.

State Street in Madison is expected to be a mad house come Saturday afternoon. Thousands will flood the streets to cheer on their Badgers.

Currently, Union South is filled with students studying.

"Of course, you've got to get this stuff out of the way before you watch the game, you don't want to have to worry about that Sunday night before classes start again," said Tony Pyle, student.

Last year, Tony Pyle watched the Badgers take on the Wildcats in Dallas -- this year, he's staying in Madison.

"It feels like there's just a bit of anticipation building up right now on campus. You get a little bit of that feeling, I always get anxious before games too because basketball is definitely my favorite sport," said Pyle.

And the Badgers are Pyle's favorite team.

At Union South, in addition to the 18 foot projection TV's, they've added 6 new TV's for the public to enjoy the game.

"Union South is just one of the busiest places you want to be. It's very exciting there's so much energy it's a sea of red," said Paige Garot, student worker at Union South.

And if you're looking for some new red swag, the campus bookstore is the place to be. From sweatshirts to hats, beads and t-shirts, the merchandise is flying off the shelves faster than the employees can restock them.

'Cut the Net' is the most popular shirt. It's been reordered three times during March Madness.

"That one is selling out because everybody sees players wearing it," said a campus bookstore employee.

Oddly enough, thanks to flash flooding, the last reorder is stuck in none other than Kentucky.

"Kentucky is holding my shirts hostage," said a campus bookstore employee.

Fear not Wisconsin fans, there's plenty of other gear to grab before Saturday's big game.

The campus bookstore will be open again Saturday morning for folks to want to grab some gear and and Union South will be opening at 7 a.m. and expect a full house around 3 p.m.
