Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce had houses broken into hours apart in October

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - OCTOBER 10: Patrick Mahomes #15 and Travis Kelce #87 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrate after the Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29 to win the game at Arrowhead Stadium on October 10, 2022 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce recently had their homes broken into within days of each other, according to law enforcement reports. The incidents took place around the time of the Chiefs' October 7 game against the New Orleans Saints, as first reported by TMZ. Both cases remain under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.

According to law enforcement, the first break-in occurred on October 6 at Mahomes' residence, located within a gated community in Cass County, Missouri, south of Kansas City. The single-page sheriff’s report obtained by the Associated Press does not name Mahomes but shows a call made just after midnight to report a burglary. Mahomes, addressing the media on Wednesday, expressed frustration over the incident, stating, "Obviously, it’s frustrating, disappointing," and noting that he couldn’t provide additional details due to the ongoing investigation.

The second incident reportedly took place on the evening of October 7, while the Chiefs played the Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. This time, the break-in was at a residence matching Kelce’s address in the affluent Kansas suburb of Leawood. Police reports show that around $20,000 in cash was taken, and the rear door was damaged. The crime wasn’t reported until early the following morning.

What was stolen in the break-ins?

While Mahomes has not publicly commented on any missing items, the report related to Kelce’s property notes that approximately $20,000 in cash was stolen. Additionally, a rear door of his 16,000-square-foot home, which includes a wine cellar, pool, and garage, was damaged.

Are authorities investigating the incidents?

Both incidents are under active investigation, and authorities have not disclosed any suspects or arrests. Cass County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Ronnie Lozano confirmed the investigation but declined to provide further details. Similarly, Leawood Police Captain Jason Ahring stated that the department does not comment on specific crime victims unless involving fatalities or homicides.

What’s next in the investigation?

Authorities are expected to continue gathering information on both incidents. In the meantime, Mahomes and Kelce, who were not at home during the break-ins, have returned to focusing on the season as their cases develop.
