Make-A-Wish gifts new pool to 10-year-old boy: "It was one of my favorite things before I got cancer"
BRISTOL, Connecticut -- A 10 year-old Bristol, Connecticut boy's wish was granted Sunday, August 21st when he was given a new pool.
Dan Therriault watched as installers put in his pool.
"It was one of my favorite things before I got cancer," said Therriault.
The young boy was visiting family during his grandparents' anniversary party last February when his leg started hurting.
"I thought at first, maybe you bumped it. Did you fall? Did something happen?" said Howie, Dan's father.
The family didn't think much of it, until Dan was rushed to urgent care the next day.
Doctors told them Dan had cancer.
"Nothing else really mattered after that other than trying to do what we do to get Dan better," said his father.
Keith Herzig with Make-A-Wish Connecticut said the wish to get a pool came together quickly.
"Most of the wishes take several weeks, by the time you get permits, people to donate their time. This wish came together in like 24 hours," said Herzig.
Vic Paradis, who owns Paradis Pools, which installed the pool, said they're proud to help the family.
"Everyone will realize there's a lot of problems out there and we can't do everything...but we can do something. And if we do, things will really change," said Paradis.
Dan's message to anyone battling cancer is that anyone can do it. His prognosis is a good one. Doctors hope he will soon be cancer free.
