Man charged in attempt to disarm officer at Mental Health Complex
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office has charged a Milwaukee man with Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer, a Class H felony.
On Wednesday, April 17, at about 5:30 a.m., a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a patient causing a disturbance at the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Center. The subject was cooperative upon her arrival, but another patient approached the deputy from behind, and attempted to remove her duty weapon from its holster. She turned and decentralized the subject, 57-year-old David Memmel of Milwaukee, preventing him from removing the weapon. The deputy was not injured in the incident.
Memmel, if convicted, faces a penalty of up to six years in prison.
