Man in custody after tactical situation near Racine hotel
RACINE (WITI) -- The Racine Police Department was actively involved in a tactical situation in the area of Harborview Drive on Thursday morning, December 19th. The Radisson Hotel Racine Harbourwalk was placed on lockdown as a result of the incident.
According to officials, police responded to the scene early Thursday for reports of a domestic abuse, battery-in-progress.
When police arrived on the scene, the suspect, a 40-year-old Racine man, was reported to have fled back into a residence on Harborview Drive. Officers learned that the suspect may have had access to firearms in the residence, and SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were activated and responded to the scene.
"I had my door cracked open and I thought, you know, my mind did wander thinking he could just come over here and, you know, swap places -- keep me captive," said resident Nicole Ramirez.
Police say contact was made with the suspect and the situation was resolved peacefully. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.
Officials say a 30-year-old woman was transported to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital for treatment as a result of the incident.
