Man says he hid inside Sikh Temple during shooting

OAK CREEK -- Those who were inside the Sikh Temple during Sunday morning's shooting incident, during which six lost their lives before a shooter was gunned down by Oak Creek police described Monday what they witnessed. One man described the uncertainty of hiding inside the temple, listening to the gunshots. A woman told FOX6 News for a moment, she may have made eye contact with a killer.

Harbans Singh Farwaha said he hid inside the Sikh Temple -- seeking cover during Sunday's mass shooting in his place of worship. When the gunshots ceased, Farwaha and others went through the temple, and soon saw one of the victims in a room he described as a "prayer hall."

Farwaha estimates from the shots he heard, he was about 30 to 40 feet away from the gunman. Because of that distance, he says he couldn't tell if the killer was saying anything while he was shooting.

Before the gunman -- 40-year-old Wade Michael Page entered the temple, Narinder Boparai was on her way to the temple. She told FOX6 News she saw Page and terrified, she left the parking lot.

"I turned my car really hard, because my nerves were shaking. I tried to call 911 twice. I'm calling twice and the second call, they picked up my phone and said 'I'm in a Sikh Temple Gudwara and it's a very bad shooting,'" Boparai said.

As officials held a press conference to discuss Sunday's events Monday morning, those inside the temple during the shooting were still trying to process what they saw. With the scene still fresh, some wondered whether they'd ever be comfortable again in their temple.

"When I will step in there, I will be shivering. My body will be shaking because I seen many dead bodies with my eyes, that I cannot forget for life," Harbans Singh Farwaha said.
