Man shot, wounded after suspect is tossed from tavern

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 34-year-old Milwaukee man is recovering after being shot while inside a tavern on the city's northwest side early Sunday, June 8th.

The shooting happened a little before 2 a.m. at a tavern near 76th and Hampton.

Police say the shooting happened after the suspect was removed from the tavern -- and then returned to retaliate.

The victim is in stable condition -- and there is no suspect in custody.

This latest violent incident has neighbors again shaking their heads.

"It is senseless. You're taking a chance by going to have something to eat," Alex Doddy said.

Doddy says the shooting discourages him from going to the tavern near 76th and Hampton.

"There be too many people in there. It's always a lot of people in there and I don't like crowds -- because when they get together, what's going to happen? I don't even mess around no more because everybody carries guns -- so you don't know who has a gun," Doddy said.

Nancy Vences works at a nearby auto shop and says this incident just furthers her worry about safety.

"It's been a lot of stuff happening. It's really dangerous out here," Vences said.

Vences says rowdy customers sometimes spill over and cause scenes.

"We just find a lot of trash and bottles and all kinds of stuff -- all kinds of garbage all over the place. I'm scared," Vences said.

Vences says she feels some relief in knowing the suspect(s) in Sunday morning's incident may have been caught on camera.

Both the auto shop and the tavern have surveillance cameras.

"There`s a lot of the time where the cops come and they try to look at our video to see what happened. Hopefully they do catch the person who did that," Vences said.

Police were on the scene of two other shootings that happened overnight Saturday into Sunday.

One happened near 33rd and Auer -- and another near 51st and North.

Police say one shooting was the result of an armed robbery.

The victims are both men -- ages 20 and 25.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No one is in custody in connection with these incidents.
