MILWAUKEE -- Mandela Barnes of Milwaukee announced his bid for Wisconsin State Assembly Tuesday, April 10th at an event addressing inner-city quality of life.
Barnes announced he will be running for state representative in Wisconsin's 11th Assembly District.
The campaign kicked off at Daniel Webster Middle School - a Milwaukee Public School District school that recently closed its doors.
Barnes said he chose the location because the building represents missed opportunities.
"The closed school represents so much more than a closed school. It represents closed hope for the children who went here, or children who may have gone here. Children all across the city, because they may not have the opportunity if we continue to close schools," Barnes said.
