Marquette students: Need somewhere to live in fall? There's a unique new option!
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Construction on an off-campus housing building near Marquette University is nearing its final phase. Crews broke ground in September, and the building will open just in time for Marquette's fall semester. So will it be a big draw for students?
On top of the stress of final exams, Marquette University junior Meredith Zoltan is stressing out about where she'll live in the fall.
"Finding any sort of apartment or housing was a little difficult - but there are always options," Zoltan said.
Set to open just in time for students returning to campus after summer break, "Ivy on Fourteenth" is one option for private housing.
"As of right now, we`ve got more than 100 students who will be calling Ivy home. There is certainly a demand for it," Elizabeth Hummitzsch, a spokesperson for Opus Group, which is developing and constructing the building said.
Ivy on Fourteenth is a 165-bed facility that is just steps away from Marquette's campus.
You'll likely be able to spot the building from across the city. A towering crane is currently on site to help with the final phase of construction.
"In the coming days ahead, we'll be putting the final touches on the sixth and final floor of the development," Hummitzsch said.
Housing options for students inside Ivy on Fourteenth will range from studio apartments to four-bedroom units.
"I'm not sure about the price. It's probably going to be a little higher, but you pay for your location...so," Zoltan said.
Rates start at $577 a month.
Units will include washers and dryers -- and there will also be a fitness center, common space and indoor parking.
Ivy on Fourteenth will offer the kind of amenities students aren't able to find with other off-campus housing options.
"It's a great location. Really close to campus -- that's nice," Zoltan said.
7,500 square feet of ground-level retail space is also planned for the building. Subway will be one tenant, and another major retailer is expected to be announced in the coming days.
