Marshall police: Marquette police chief arrested for OWI after allegedly failing to stop at stop sign
MILWAUKEE -- We're learning new details about the OWI arrest of Marquette University Police Chief Paul Mascari.
According to the Marshall Police Department in Marshall, Wis., Mascari, 41, from New Berlin was arrested Jan. 17 during a traffic stop. It happened around 1:30 a.m. in the Village of Marshall. He was arrested for OWI, first offense, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Mascari was later released to a responsible party.
In a news release, Marshall police noted a first offense OWI carries a possible fine of $937.50 and failure to stop at a stop sign carries a possible fine of $175.30.
The investigation is ongoing.
Chief Paul Mascari has been with Marquette University since 2004, and chief since 2015, when the departed was created. MU officials issued this statement after Mascari's arrest:
"We are aware of a police citation issued to our Marquette University Police Chief for operating a vehicle while intoxicated while he was off duty and away from campus. The chief has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review. Marquette University takes the conduct of all of our employees very seriously."
