Mayor Barrett kicks off sixth annual care package drive for soldiers

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is asking for some help in sending holiday care packages to soldiers serving overseas.

Mayor Barrett on Monday, December 3rd kicked off the sixth annual Milwaukee holiday care package drive at City Hall. The goal is to send some Wisconsin cheer to those who cannot be home for the holidays.

All the gifts are heading to the men and women serving in the 128th Air Control Squadron in southeast Asia.

Mayor Barrett says the most requested items are all Wisconsin.

"Some of the most respected and requested are Wisconsin foods: jerky, beef, summer sausages, cheeses and chocolate," Mayor Barrett said.

The Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation is paying the cost of shipping, which will be around $3,000. 

Mayor Barrett says over the last five years, 1,200 packages have been shipped.

Items will be collected until Friday, Dec. 14th and can be dropped off at the Mayor’s Office, in City Hall, 200 E. Wells Street, Rm.201.
