Mayor Tom Barrett to visit youth in summer work program
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will visit the workplaces of youth employed in his summer work program, Earn & Learn,Tuesday, August 6th. Barrett is expected to make stops at three different work sites where youth are employed with his program.
The mayor plans to visit and talk with youth employed at a city public works paving project, the Blood Center of Wisconsin Human Resources Department and the United Community Center.
Earn & Learn, which began in 2008, aims to connect young people with paid jobs in the public, private, community and faith-based sectors that help youth develop "work-readiness" skills.
This summer, roughly 2,000 students are involved with the program. Since its inception, Earn & Learn has employed 19,000 youth.
