Medical examiner: 46-year-old woman dies in the Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed the death of a 46-year-old woman in the Milwaukee County Jail. The woman was pronounced dead at 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19th.

A news release from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said a correctional officer called medical staff for an unresponsive inmate in a pod around 7:30 p.m. The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the scene and continued life-saving efforts, which were unsuccessful.

Officials said an autopsy would be performed on Wednesday.

Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department detectives are handling the death investigation.
