I-43 shooting, suspect vehicle described

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened on I-43 in Mequon between CTH-C and Highland.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened Saturday night on I-43 in Mequon.

The investigation shut down I-43 southbound between County Highway C and Highland Road around 5 p.m. Traffic was diverted off the interstate at County Highway C and did not reopen until around 8:30 p.m.

According to the sheriff's office, the victim was headed south in the right lane of I-43 when a white car passed on the left and fired an unknown number of shots into the victim's vehicle. The victim's vehicle was hit several times, but no one was hurt.

The sheriff's office said the suspect and suspect vehicle have not yet been identified or located, and no arrests have been made. The suspect vehicle was described by the victim as a white Kia 4-door, unknown model, unknown license plate. 

The victim was identified as a 32-year-old man from Caledonia. There was no known connection between the victim and the suspect, according to the sheriff's office.

Ozaukee County Sheriffs Office investigates shots fired on I-43 

The location of the closure overlapped with a construction zone, making it more difficult for law enforcement to get motorists off the interstate. FOX6 News at the scene found traffic was backed up for more than a mile.
