Underneath the iconic Calatrava design, Milwaukee Art Museum Director Daniel Keegan is beaming with excitement.

"This has been about six years in the making," said Keegan.

After fourteen months of construction, the museum is nearly ready for the public.

"I think we're going to be part of that growth and expansion of Milwaukee as a destination community," Keegan said.

The museum is completing a $34 million project which includes crucial infrastructure repairs to the two older buildings.

They've expanded to now 150,000-square feet of galleries where 2,500 works of art are on display. That's almost 1,000 more than have ever been on view before.

On Friday, dozens of media professionals were invited to experience the new museum on a guided tour.

"From what I've seen so far, it's pretty amazing. I just left the room, there was film photographer it brought back memories and a greater appreciation for photography," said Anthony Trevino, Chicago photographer.

Trevino and his friend are amazed at the modern feel of the new museum layout.

"Instantly recognizable and one of the most modern art places, I think -- it just kind of makes sense for the whole experience to be upgraded to where it's at now," said Emmanuel Camacho, filmmaker.

It's a new experience for first timers and long-time members.

"If you think you know the MAM's Collection Gallery, think again when you go in -- it's completely different," said Keegan.
