Milwaukee busy during last day of in-person absentee voting

MILWAUKEE -- More than 182,000 Wisconsin residents have already requested absentee ballots or voted absentee for the upcoming June 5th recall election, according to the Government Accountability Board. The Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building in downtown Milwaukee was busy again during the last day of early voting on Friday, June 1st.

"As of 7:00 p.m. Thursday night, 17,123 absentee ballots have been processed in the City of Milwaukee," Sue Edman from the Milwaukee Election Commission said.

Absentee voting has kept election workers busy. Calls and questions have been pouring into the Milwaukee Election Commission during the early voting period.

Barbara Kaus who headed to vote absentee after seeing former president Bill Clinton in Pere Marquette Park. Clinton was in town for a get-out-the-vote rally with Democratic candidate Tom Barrett. "I got to shake President Clinton's hand, so I was very happy about that," Kaus said.

The Government Accountability Board wants to remind voters that mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked by election day, June 5th.
