Christmas decorations stolen, Milwaukee neighbors keep spirit alive

In Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood, a number of residents said a Grinch recently targeted their Christmas decorations. Everything from inflatable Santas to abominable snowmen were recently stolen.

Residents respond

"Thought it was kind of sad, like who steals Christmas decorations?" said Jill Capicchioni. "I don't see them as my things. They are for the neighborhood."

When residents discovered their Christmas displays were getting unwanted attention, they refused to let their festive spirit break.

"We just used what we had kind of lying around the house to maybe make a slight theft deterrent," Capicchioni said.

Just down the street from Capicchioni's house, Kim Segrin said the display outside her home was targeted; three inflatables were stolen.

"Who would do that at Christmastime?" she said.

Anonymous gift

After posting about the theft on Facebook, to Segrin's surprise, an anonymous neighbor gifted her a new inflatable reindeer.

"We have things dropped off all the time, but that really meant a lot to us," she said.

As for the anonymous neighbor…

"Bought it for them and left it at their house with a note, just an anonymous note," said Capicchioni.

The heartwarming act shows, even when some people are taking this holiday season, there's still a lot of giving.

"Didn’t take away any of the joy of the season – I mean, the joy is still there," said Segrin.

Neither of the neighbors had doorbell cameras, but they hope anyone who sees anything will speak up.
