MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- As another effort to keep people cool during this heat wave, Milwaukee County is extending the hours of operation for several of the County’s wading pools, outdoor pools, and Family Aquatic Centers for Thursday, July 18th and Friday, July 19th.
Sheridan Park Pool was packed on Thursday as many looked to the water to escape the heat and humidity, and now, folks have longer to enjoy the County's pools.
"The weather is hot and we're having a blast at the pool," Tammy Zahn said.
"It's not so bad when you're in the pool and the air hits you," Jennifer Olfan said.
Dozens took a dip in the pool in Cudahy on Thursday -- wading, swimming and sliding. For many, it was a great break from 90 degree temperatures and high humidity.
"All ages are out. Everybody is enjoying the opportunity to cool down," John Dargle with Milwaukee County Parks said.
Milwaukee County's pools will stay open an hour later, and open an hour earlier on Thursday and Friday.
"We're opening our park pools and splash pads and wading pools a little bit longer than normal, just to accommodate people who may be out in the heat," Dargle said.
On Tuesday, Milwaukee County activated its heat plan, which includes the Department on Aging coordinating home visits for elderly residents potentially as rick and opening cooling centers across the County.
