MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Humboldt Park pavilion in Milwaukee County is temporarily closed after being the target of vandalism and burglary. The crimes occurred some time between Sunday afternoon, January 19th and closing time the same evening.
A person or persons vandalized the men's and women's restrooms inside the pavilion and stole galvanized pipes from both bathroom sinks.
"The sinks were very carefully operated on. The person turned off the water and removed the pipes from beneath the sink," said Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Jason Haas.
Haas said the vandals also lit rolls of toilet paper on fire and threw them down the hall.
Humboldt Park isn't the only park to be vandalized this year. Jacobus Park in Wauwatosa was hit earlier in January, but nothing was stolen during that incident.
Authorities are working to determine if the two incidents are related.
"You have to wonder, both parks, very light usage right now, not many people going in there -- it could be an easy target for someone to cause some havoc," Haas said. "I hope that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice."
No one has been taken into custody in connection with the crimes.
Milwaukee County does not have a damage estimate at this time, however the Sheriff's Office is investigating both cases.
