Milwaukee declared a "Let's Move!" city

MILWAUKEE -- The city of Milwaukee has been declared a "Let's Move" city by the Department of Health and Human Services.

"Let's Move" is First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative to fight childhood obesity -- and it looks like Milwaukee is putting some muscle behind its movement.

One of the newest members of the city's effort -- former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Gilbert Brown (otherwise known as The Gravedigger).

"A lot of kids inside playing Playstation and X-Box and not getting outside and enjoying the weather. When I grew up, that's all we did, basketball, football everything," said Brown.

A recent survey showed 35% of MPS high school students are either overweight or obese. That's 10% higher than the state average -- and something Mayor Tom Barrett hopes will change.

"Kids sitting around playing video games and it's more important to get them outside and running and having fun and really that's what the message is," said Barrett.

Mayor Barrett says having Brown and his football camp on the city's "Let's Move" team makes it special -- because Brown is so well respected.

Brown's all-pro football camp is completely free for girls and boys ages eight to 17. It's happening July 10th through 12th. CLICK HERE for more information on this camp.
