Police chase, crash; Milwaukee man dead
A 24-year-old Milwaukee man is dead after a police chase and crash Tuesday morning near 43rd and Oklahoma on the city's south side.
MILWAUKEE - A 24-year-old Milwaukee man is dead after a police chase and crash Tuesday morning on the city's south side.
According to police, West Allis officers were conducting an OWI investigation near 57th and Lincoln around 12:45 a.m. As officers were conducting that investigation, an unrelated pickup truck speed past them down Lincoln. An officer caught up to the pickup truck and tried to perform a traffic stop, but the driver fled.
The pickup truck turned south onto 43rd Street and continued to flee, increasing its speed as it ran a red light at 43rd and Oklahoma. There, it was hit by a vehicle headed east on Oklahoma.

Police said the pickup truck then lost control and hit an unoccupied, parked vehicle and then a tree. The driver died. Thursday, the medical examiner's office identified him as Alexi Garay.
"I seen one over there and then a truck over here – and then I see this truck over here," said neighbor Dale Czarnecki, whose cameras caught the moment the truck hit the tree. "They weren’t just doing 30 miles per hour."
Milwaukee fatal crash, 43rd and Oklahoma
No officers or other people were injured because of the crash.
Debris and broken glass remained scattered along the sidewalk Tuesday afternoon as police continued to investigate.
