Woman killed in Milwaukee crash

A 37-year-old woman died after colliding with a semi-truck near 76th and Appleton in Milwaukee on Thursday, Oct. 24.

One woman is dead after a crash on Milwaukee’s northwest side on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The Milwaukee Police Department said it happened around 3:30 p.m. near 76th and Appleton.

A semi-truck was making a turn when a vehicle traveling straight collided with the semi. The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the semi remained on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Sheryl Marable said she often travels that stretch of road and is used to being a defensive driver.

"Always look at my mirrors, look ahead, just be cautious because you never know in these streets of Milwaukee," Marable said. "It was sad and my heart dropped. It’s not unusual to see that corner where there is another accident."

MPD said the investigation is fluid and ongoing.

Scene near 76th and Appleton

Data from the Milwaukee Police Department shows so far this year, 56 people have died in crashes across the city, which is down from 76 in the same time the year before.

"People need to learn how to slow down and you have to be a great defensive driver these days," said resident Michael King. "It happens too often, it happens quite a bit all around the city."
