According to the sheriff's office, witnesses said a car that had been stopped in the median "abruptly entered traffic at a high rate of speed, moving across multiple lanes." It then clipped another vehicle, hit a retention wall, careened back across all lanes of traffic, hit the median wall and stopped.
The driver, a 46-year-old Oak Creek man, died at the scene. A 55-year-old Franklin woman was taken to a hospital with serious but non-fatal injuries, the sheriff's office said.
The vehicle that was clipped had minor damage, and the driver was not hurt.
