Milwaukee Fire Department moves from Class II to Class I ranking as it relates to fire protection
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee has earned a top ranking when it comes to fire protection.
On Wednesday, August 3rd, officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department announced MFD is moving from a Class II to a Class I city when it comes to the Insurance Services Office.
The ISO collects data relating to how prepared cities around the United States are when it comes to fire protection.
The scale ranges from a 10 being the worst, to a one being the best.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett on Wednesday explained the significance of the rating.
"ISO's ratings are used by all insurance companies in setting rates. So if you're buying property and casualty insurance, it's best to live in a city with a number one rating," Mayor Barrett said.
Fire departments use the rating as a way to see where improvements need to be made.

The number one rating signifies that in every area of fire protection, the city is working effectively.
