Milwaukee Brady Street hit-and-run, 41-year-old man struck
Milwaukee police are seeking a silver SUV and its driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that happened on E. Brady Street early Monday. Witnesses say the victim is a beloved bar regular.
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee police are seeking a silver SUV and its driver they say are involved in a hit-and-run crash that happened on E. Brady Street early Monday, May 29. Witnesses say the victim is a beloved bar regular.
"What else is it going to take for some action," said Alex Schwind.
"Anything would help to stop this from happening," said Mya Blackowicz.
Officials say shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, the SUV struck a 41-year-old Milwaukee man who was crossing the street. The driver then fled the scene. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Blackowicz was working at a bar when it happened.
"One of our door guys came running in and was like, ‘Oh my God, someone just got hit,'" Blackowicz said. "His shoes flew off and we kind of saw the commotion. Everyone ran over."
The crash badly injured the victim.

"He’s our best friend. He’s a regular. We love him so much," Blackowicz said.
"He’s absolutely beloved by the community. We’re his family," Schwind said.
Schwind is fed up with the reckless driving.
"Cars and motorcycles, they go way too fast," Schwind said.
Schwind's friend, Arne Bast, was hit and killed while crossing the street near Brady and Franklin in September 2022.
"We need to get some speed bumps or stop signs, some actions need to be taken here," Schwind said.
Leaders are studying Brady Street and working to figure out how to make it safer for pedestrians.

"People need to be aware of pedestrians cross the street," Schwind said.
Surveillance at nearby businesses captured the crash. People on Brady Street hope it helps police crack the case.
"Also, we want justice," Schwind said.
"Something needs to change," Blackowicz said.
Friends of the victim are helping raise money for medical expenses. One man said he hopes to throw a block party to help in the future.
