According to a criminal complaint indicates, officers did not find any bullet casings in the area – "consistent with the victim being shot at a different location" and being left in the alley.

Investigators found Taylor's vehicle near 13th and Burleigh. Prosecutors said blood was found inside, and a bullet casing later fell from between the front passenger sun visor and the roof during the search.

Court filings said investigators spoke with two people about what happened. One person said McCoy and Taylor were in a car and, at one point, the person heard a gunshot. The person also said McCoy walked away with "blood on his clothing."

The second person said, per the complaint, that McCoy "upped the gun" and shot the victim "after being told the victim was talking about him." That person also said McCoy put the victim's body in the backseat of a vehicle and drove off.

In addition to prison time, McCoy was sentenced to 10 years of extended supervision.
