2022 Milwaukee hoodie trade shooting, man now charged
MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man is now charged in a 2022 shooting that stemmed from a trade of what prosecutors described as "expensive" hoodies at Kosciuszko Park.
Prosecutors charged Zackery Moreno, 18, with first-degree reckless injury and two gun possession felonies in the case. He was 16 years old at the time.

The shooting happened on Oct. 3, 2022. Court filings said two people shot the victim during a trade of "expensive ‘BAPE’ hoodies" near the Kosciuszko Park basketball court.
Investigators identified a phone number for the person who set up the trade. That number led them to Moreno as a suspect, according to a criminal complaint.
Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO)
Police tried to arrest Moreno on Oct. 11. 2022. Prosecutors said he was seen with a gun getting into the passenger seat of a red Honda on Middlemass Street, near 23rd and Becher. When officers approached to take Moreno into custody, the driver took off.
It sparked a chase that ended near 25th and Mitchell when the Honda hit another car – with a woman and her newborn baby inside – and a pole, per the complaint. A gun found near the crash scene "appeared to be the same firearm" police saw Moreno with before the chase.

Moreno was taken into custody later that day. Court filings said, in an interview with detectives, he denied involvement in the shooting and denied having any BAPE hoodies – even though he had one with him when he was arrested.
Prosecutors said searches of two homes Moreno was known to frequent uncovered additional BAPE hoodies, including the one taken in the trade. A cellphone – which matched the number of the person who set up the hoodie trade – was also found. Location data from the phone placed it at the park at the time of the shooting.
Court Cases
Court records show Moreno is due back in court in January. He is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on $40,000 bond.
In 2022, prosecutors charged then-16-year-old Anthony Alvarez in the case. Court filings said he was the driver of the red Honda that fled with Moreno. Court records show he reached a plea deal in 2023 and was sentenced later that year to probation for fleeing police and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
