Milwaukee man accused of shooting, killing two people near 51st and Lisbon

Do Thao

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 23-year-old Do Thao of Milwaukee is now charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon for his alleged role in the shooting deaths of two people near 51st and Lisbon on Friday, July 25th. The victims are identified as Beelee Chang and Jack Yang.

According to the criminal complaint, the shooting happened just before midnight at the intersection.  Police say the victims were shot while seated inside a car -- allegedly by Thao. The car they were in then traveled forward and collided with a building.

The complaint indicates Chang received a gunshot wound to the back of his head -- and died on the scene. Yang suffered two gunshot wounds to the back of his neck and a third to his shoulder. He died at a hospital on Sunday, July 27th.

When officers got to the scene, one of them "observed a person hiding in the bushes in the fetal position." He identified himself as Thao. The complaint says Thao said to officers, "I had to do it, they ain't right." Officers noticed Thao had an "empty gun holster affixed to his belt."

According to the complaint, Thao later told officers he had been drinking beer since 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. Friday and "did not remember what happened." He also told officers "he did have his CCW permit with him."

If convicted, Thao faces up to life in prison.
