Man fatally shot near 92nd and Silver Spring

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- One man is dead after shots are fired near 92nd and Silver Spring in Milwaukee late Monday night. Milwaukee police say the man is 53 years old -- and from Milwaukee.

Police say the man was shot outside of an apartment building.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Police say it happened around 10:30 p.m.

Neighbors who heard the gunfire said it’s a sound they are almost becoming accustomed to, it happens so often.

“Once it gets darks you start hearing the kids fire their guns. Everyone has a gun nowadays,” said one neighbor.

In this particular incident, neighbors say they heard four or five shots fired. It led some nearby to duck and take cover, but one neighbor in particular, Shawn, said he ran to see what happened.

“I heard about four or five shots fired but I didn’t hear any return fire. So after a few seconds I looked out the window. It’s a habit just to see who’s running or what happened and I saw a couple people running down the street and then down another street,” said Shawn.

In Shawn’s opinion, there's only one thing that could stop this, “Put the guns down,” Shawn said.

That’s a notion that city leaders are also pushing now more than ever.

“Until people decide they are going to resolve their differences without using guns, this is going to continue. And it is insanity and it is unfair to the good people that live in the central area of this city,” said Mayor Tom Barrett.

Police do not have anyone in custody for this shooting.
