Milwaukee mayor 'heartbroken' by Connecticut shooting
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says he is ``heartbroken'' by the shooting rampage at a Connecticut school that killed more than two-dozen people.
In a statement, Barrett says he has ``watched in horror'' as mass shootings ``have become all too common, including in our own community.''
A white supremacist killed a half-dozen people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee before killing himself in August. In October, a gunman fatally shot his estranged wife and two other women at a suburban Milwaukee spa before killing himself.
Barrett says as a community and a nation, ``we cannot simply move on from today's tragedy.'' He says, ``Too many lives have been taken, too many lives destroyed.''
