Milwaukee mayor reacts to charging decision in Williams case
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is reacting to the decision not to file any state charges against any of the officers in the Derek Williams case.
In a statement released on Thursday morning, March 28th, Barrett said: "I have not received or read the Special Prosecutor's report. I have stated before and, I say again, that the squad car video of Derek Williams in the back seat was disturbing, very disturbing. Last September, when the medical examiner changed his position, I call for the U.S. Attorney to conduct an independent investigation and I supported the appointment of the Special Prosecutor, as did Milwaukee Police Chief Flynn and the Fire and Police Commission. The issues are serious and the feelings and emotions felt by Mr. Williams' family cannot be minimized or dismissed. It's imperative that we all remain patient as the legal process continues."
