MPD officer accused of sexual assault

ST. FRANCIS -- A Milwaukee police officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law -- arrested on allegations of sexual assault. The St. Francis Police Department confirms that on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at approximately 5:57 p.m., an off-duty police officer employed by the Milwaukee Police Department was taken into custody without incident in relation to a sexual assault investigation.

FOX6 is not naming the officer until he is charged by the district attorney. He's assigned to District 3 -- and this isn't the first time he's been under investigation.

For a second day, a Milwaukee police officer is locked in a jail cell while the district attorney determines whether to charge the 34-year-old with sexual assault.

St. Francis Police arrested the officer at his home Wednesday night. Investigators say the alleged sexual assault took place while the officer was off-duty at his St. Francis home.

Milwaukee police tell FOX6 they are aware of the allegations, and that the officer has been placed on paid suspension.

The officer, who joined MPD less than two years ago, has been under investigation before. According to a list obtained through an open records request, the officer was the subject of a 2018 Milwaukee Police Department's internal affairs investigation. However, we do not know why -- or whether the investigation was substantiated.

For now, the officer remains behind bars while detectives and the district attorney review the most recent allegations. St. Francis Police expect the DA to make a charging decision on Monday. If charges are filed, we will report the officer's name.
