Family: Missing Milwaukee girl found safe, gas station taped off

There was a significant police presence seen near 50th and Lisbon on Milwaukee's north side, with family telling FOX6 News the scene was tied to the report of a missing 13-year-old girl.

The family of a missing 13-year-old girl found her at a Milwaukee gas station on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

But it’s who loved ones say the teen was found with that turned the store into a crime scene. Her family said she was spotted with a man possibly in his 30s.

FOX6 News was on the way to interview the mother of that 13-year-old girl when she said to turn around and go to the gas station because her child had been found.

Chaos unfolded around 4 p.m. at a gas station near 50th and Lisbon.

"We been frantically looking for her for the last three days, and today they found her here," an unidentified family member said. "As long as she is breathing and alive, because it doesn't always happen that way. I'm grateful."

The Milwaukee Police Department said the teen was last seen near 67th and Keefe on Monday. Loved ones told FOX6 News they received a tip that the teen was at the gas station with the adult male.

The family said someone safely grabbed the teen and restrained the man until officers arrived.

"How did she end up with him? I have no idea, it is all a mystery," the family member said. "She ended up with him Sunday night and been with him ever since."

Vaun Mayes, a community activist with Community Task Force MKE, has been searching for the teen.

"This could have ended badly and so, just appreciative of everybody calming down," Mayes said.

When he arrived to help de-escalate the situation, he said two men were detained and the teen was with investigators.

"She was trying to hold it together," Mayes said.

Her family plans to help her fight to move forward.

"Man, I'm just thankful, glory be to God," the girl’s family member said. "Because if it wasn't for him we would not have found her."

MPD has not responded to FOX6 News when asked about Wednesday’s incident, nor has confirmed any details. The teen’s family said she is safe and has been talking with officers.

Editor's note: FOX6 News is not naming the girl or her family members at this time, as the Milwaukee Police Department has yet to confirm and she is the victim in the case.
