Milwaukee Public Museum; Culver's donates $1M for custard shop exhibit

The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) announced on Tuesday, Oct. 24 details about the custard shop exhibit in the future museum’s Milwaukee Revealed gallery, made possible by a $1 million gift from Culver’s and Culver family members.

"Frozen custard – come on," exclaimed Craig Culver, co-founder of Culver's. "Milwaukee is the home of frozen custard."

A news release says among the streetscape of the Milwaukee Revealed gallery, "visitors will encounter a custard shop storefront with an exhibit inside that shows how Wisconsin's natural resources and dairy industry fueled Milwaukee’s love for frozen custard and its iconic custard shops. Visitors will be able to enter the exhibit, where they’ll smell the sweet scent of freshly baked waffle cones and find a mix of vibrant graphics and historic photographs that give an overview of the creation of frozen custard. They’ll even be able to take their turn operating a custard machine that serves an endless loop of faux custard."

"As you walk into the Custard Shop, you’ll be able to learn about the history of the dairy industry and farmers in Wisconsin," said Julie Quinland Brame, Vice President of Development for the Milwaukee Public Museum.

Culver’s is the latest organization to contribute to the Wisconsin Wonders public-private capital campaign, joining a group of more than 250 donors, the State of Wisconsin and Milwaukee County in supporting the future museum.

"It also pays homage to the farmers, that are so important to our country, but in particular to our state," said Curt Culver. "This is a wonderful legacy to our parents and to our state and to the history of frozen custard."
