Milwaukee Public Schools graduation ceremonies to be held in-person

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Public Schools will host in-person graduation ceremonies June 1-4 for the 

class of 2021.

COVID-19 pushed students out of classrooms for most of the year, turning them to virtual learning until heading back on April 26. In just over a week, they will be able to celebrate another milestone.

Ceremonies will be held at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena and North Division High School. Each graduate will receive five tickets for guests to attend. All ceremonies will be live-streamed on the MPS YouTube channel, too.

Student Priyana Cabraal and Principal of Milwaukee School of Languages Juan Baez said the pandemic may have robbed the upperclassmen of group activities like homecoming and prom, but getting to finish the year together and celebrate is amazing for them.

"It’s nice being with each other at MSL. It’s like we’re family, still feels like I’m finally back at home and I’m ready to say goodbye to everyone before we go on open to our own paths," said Cabraal.

"To be able to come together as a family and celebrate a huge monumental steppingstone to ourselves, getting into their next phase of their career of their lives," Baez said. 

To make things work, 24 ceremonies will be held over the four-day span. Each location will have four different time slots from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Social distancing and safety protocols – masks are required – will remain in place for those who attend in person.

Specific details on how to safely attend these ceremonies will be shared by each high school with families.
