Milwaukee restaurant owner shot, wounded in robbery attempt
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that happened during a robbery attempt at "Juto Asian Fusion" restaurant at 6th and Virginia on the city's south side early on Friday, October 4th.
The owner of the restaurant was shot around 3:45 a.m. after he armed himself with a handgun and confronted the suspects inside of the restaurant. The suspects then fled from the restaurant.
The victim, a 30-year-old man from Milwaukee, suffered a non-life threatening injury -- and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Employees at other restaurants in the area are on edge.
"We feel shocked here at Conejitos. People come here to have a happy meal with their family. Seeing this? We're a bit scared because this could happen to our restaurant as well," said waiter Antonio Uribe.
Milwaukee Alderman Jose Perez was briefed by police on the incident. He says the Walker's Point area is a very safe neighborhood.
"This was an unfortunate opportunity that a bad guy took advantage of. This is not going to define the neighborhood," said Perez.
Juto Asian Fusion is currently closed. Police have not taken any suspects into custody.
