SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- A 30-year-old Sheboygan man has been charged after the Milwaukee Police Department and Sheboygan Police Department teamed up with FedEx in order to intercept a drug delivery.
Anthony Benzschawel now faces one felony count of possession with intent to delivery THC (1,000 to 2,500 grams).
A criminal complaint filed against Benzschawel says Sheboygan police on October 3rd learned of a package that had been intercepted by a Milwaukee police detective. A search warrant was obtained and executed on the package, and police learned it was to be delivered to a home on South 25th Street in Sheboygan. As the search warrant was executed on the package, police learned it contained a green, leafy substance that tested positive for THC. The complaint says the package had a total marijuana weight of 1,265 grams.
The complaint says the package appeared to have been sent by a woman from California.
Officials then obtained a search warrant for when the package was to be delivered at the Sheboygan residence.
The complaint says surveillance was established near the Sheboygan home, and Benzschawel was seen grabbing the package from the front porch and leaving the front porch area of the home with the package in hand -- eventually placing it behind an object in a backyard.
Police made contact with Benzschawel, and the complaint says Benzschawel told officials he had picked up the package for a neighbor, and had placed it in the back of his residence -- saying he didn't know what was inside the package -- saying it was the first time he had picked up a package for his neighbor.
The complaint says Benzschawel was notified that the delivery was under surveillance, and officials noted that Benzschawel running to the front porch was suspicious, as was him making several looks towards the delivery person.
The complaint says Benzschawel was found to have two cell phones on him -- and both were seized as evidence.
The complaint says officials made contact with the individual living at the home on South 25th Street, and that individual told police he wasn't expecting a package.
