Milwaukee 22nd and Orchard shooting: 7-year-old hurt, mom arrested

A 7-year-old boy was shot and wounded near 22nd and Orchard in Milwaukee on Sunday, June 25, and his mother was arrested.

The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m.

"It’s scary because how would he get shot, and what was he doing out at that time?" said a neighbor.

The boy was taken to the hospital, and police said he is expected to survive. The neighbor offered an update on his condition Monday.

"He’s doing pretty good," she said. "He’s in stable condition. So far, he’s in stable condition."

Police said the boy's mother, 37, was arrested, and a gun was recovered.

"We don’t know if she had anything to do with it or what," said the neighbor. 

Police didn't say how the boy was shot or why the woman was arrested.

"It breaks my heart, just knowing that he’s in a lot of pain," said the neighbor.

This neighbor wanted to remain anonymous due to safety concerns.

"I don’t want them coming and targeting more or something," she said.

Milwaukee police said Monday the district attorney was reviewing this case for possible charges.
