Statement from Denise Wandke, MCTS president:
"We’re deeply saddened by the random act of violence that happened on the bus yesterday. Gun violence anywhere in Milwaukee County is unacceptable. We cannot tolerate behaviors that threaten the safety and comfort of transit workers and riders who depend on MCTS.
"We are actively engaged in creating and supporting a safe environment throughout the community. We collaborate with the Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, and our own transportation safety team. Know that if anyone commits a crime on any MCTS bus, we will do everything we can to be sure you are brought to justice. We have 10 cameras on every bus, so that’s 3,000 cameras across millions of miles throughout the county, nearly 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We work hand-in-hand with local law enforcement to help ensure we have a safe and secure public transit system for everyone.
"The bus is one of the safest places in the community and we’re committed to keeping it that way."
