Pregnant woman killed in shooting, friend says

One person was killed in an early morning shooting in Milwaukee on Saturday, Feb. 10. A friend identified the victim as Kuvina Hickles, who was pregnant.

A Milwaukee shooting early Saturday morning left a 28-year-old woman dead. The victim's loved ones told FOX6 News she was pregnant.

The shooting happened near 48th and Fairmount around 1:30 a.m. Police said the victim died at the scene, and a friend identified her as Kuvina Hickles.

On Monday, Feb. 12, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office also confirmed the woman's identity as Kuvina Hickles.

"I just lost so much within the blink of an eye," said Hickles' friend Isabella Collier.

Collier said she, too, is pregnant. The friends' due dates were just two weeks apart.

"It's two lives that were lost in the midst of one act," she said.

A 27-year-old was taken into custody for the shooting, police said, and a gun was recovered. The friend told FOX6 that Hickles was pregnant, and loved ones said they believe they know who police took into custody.

"I don't know what could make somebody want to do that to anyone," said Collier.

Now, Collier is left mourning the loss of her best friend's life.

"I'm just stuck with memories, text messages, photos – that's all I have," she said.

Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
