Milwaukee unveils first compressed natural gas refueling station

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee opened its first compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station  on the city's south side Friday afternoon, August 17th.

The CNG fueling station is located near 39th and Lincoln. This station offers competitive pricing and can be used by anyone with a CNG vehicle and a credit card. A similar station will be opening on Milwaukee's north side at 30th and Ruby.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was on hand for Friday's ribbon cutting of the first CNG refueling station. He was joined by other election officials.

The CNG stations are being built as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which also funded the marginal cost to purchase 21 CNG refuse trucks. Nine of these CNG trucks are on the road in Milwaukee right now, with more coming on line each week in August and September. A grant has been secured to help fund an additional 20 CNG refuse trucks.

Based on the price posted at the Milwaukee CNG site, you'll pay $1.98 a gallon for compressed natural gas.
