Milwaukee woman eager to see inauguration in person

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee woman is eager to board a plane for Washington, D.C. where she will see for the second time, the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

"I remember the energy of last time, and the people in that crowd. Just hundreds of thousands of people in that crowd just so energized, and excited," said Leila Sahar.

Sahar is a member of President Obama's campaign staff. She describes her participation during the 2009 presidential inauguration as supporting history. For this latest trip, she has a different motivation.

"I think it's still historic, and I think there's nothing like, you know, swearing in the first African-American President for a second-term, on 'MLK, Junior Day,' But, yeah, I think it's more of a coming together and showing that, you know, this country still supports our President," said Sahar.

Sahar lives in Milwaukee. She realizes her Wisconsin roots could get more attention with the dynamics of Dairy State politics getting so much national press during the president's first term. But she considers this another opportunity to lead politics in a positive direction.

"I think, for the last, you know, year or two, it's sort of been all eyes on Wisconsin, in terms of the political landscape, the political environment. But I think now, we need to put all that past us, and start having positive energy, and I think this is a great way to start, because I'm sure it will be positive energy, there," said Sahar.

Sahar says in 2009, she took her sister to the presidential inauguration. This year, she's excited about taking her parents who immigrated to the U.S. decades ago.
